Caramel apples, not to be confused with candy apples, are one of the highlights of the fall season. This month's pizza recipe is a shortbread cookie crust topped with Granny Smith apples, caramel and nuts.
This recipe contains a lot of butter (Somewhere, Paula Deen is smiling.), but it is so flavorful that you can alter the serving size and skimp on the caramel sauce to ease your mind. I cut it into eight to twelve slices. The shortbread cookie dough does not spread much once it is on the pizza pan, so you can look at it and decide how to slice it before baking.
